The AFU lost more than 270 servicemen in the Kursk region over the day

The losses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in Kursk Region amounted to more than 270 servicemen over the day. This was reported by the Russian Defense Ministry on January 21.

"The units of the "North" group of troops during the offensive actions defeated the formations of the tank, heavy mechanized, four mechanized, two airborne assault brigades, a brigade of marines and three brigades of the territorial defense of the AFU," the ministry said.

The enemy units were hit in the areas of 11 localities. In addition, the strikes of operational-tactical, army aviation and artillery fire hit the enemy's manpower and equipment in the areas of 12 localities.

"Over the day, the AFU losses amounted to more than 270 servicemen, destroyed an Abrams tank and a US-made Bradley infantry fighting vehicle, three armored personnel carriers, nine armored combat vehicles, nine vehicles, three artillery pieces, a mortar and two electronic warfare stations," the Russian Defense Ministry added.

Earlier, on January 20, the Russian Defense Ministry showed footage of a Ka-52M helicopter strike on armored vehicles and personnel of the AFU as part of the mixed tactical aviation in the border area of Kursk Region. The crew was carrying out a combat mission to support units of the "North" group of troops. The pilots launched missiles according to the coordinates, successfully eliminating the targets.

The AFU attacked Russian positions in the border areas of the Kursk region on August 6, 2024. The situation in the region was recognized as a state of emergency of federal character. The liquidation of the Ukrainian militants who invaded the Russian territory is underway.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which was announced by the President of the Russian Federation on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the worsening situation in the region.
