Trade and economic relations between Moscow and Yerevan are on the rise. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said this in a conversation with his Armenian counterpart Ararat Mirzoyan on January 21.

"We just spoke with you about trade and economic relations, which are on the rise. The trade turnover is reaching record values, almost $12 billion will be for last year, so the statistics says," Lavrov said.

Mirzoyan, in turn, said that Armenia is ready to show interest in political dialog with the Russian side.

"Armenia is interested in continuing effective political dialog aimed at discussing issues affecting our bilateral relations and the regional situation in general," he said.

Lavrov also said that Russia is ready to provide support for the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Earlier, on January 17, Russian President Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, during which they discussed bilateral issues and the agenda of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). It was noted that the practical advantages of joint work within the EAEU, including benefits for Armenia's economy, were discussed.

Last November, Russian Ambassador to Armenia Sergey Kopyrkin told Izvestia that Russia expects the Armenian partners to be permanently involved in joint efforts to develop a system of equal and indivisible security on the Eurasian continent.
