Putin says Russia leads in natural gas supplies to China
Russia ranks first in natural gas supplies to China. This statement was made by Russian President Vladimir Putin on January 21 during talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping via videoconference.
"China is the largest consumer of Russian energy resources. We hold the first place in terms of oil exports to China. <...> Today Russia has taken the first place in natural gas supplies to China," he specified.
In addition, the head of state noted that China and Russia managed to reach good indicators in mutual trade, despite the "negative impact from outside". Thus, for 11 months the trade turnover increased by 7% to $220 billion. At the same time, according to Chinese statistics, for the whole year it amounted to almost $245 billion.
Putin added that the countries are also implementing successful joint projects in industry, transportation, agriculture and other areas.
During a direct line on December 19, 2024, Putin said that Russian-Chinese interaction has become in recent decades what it has never been before. He attributed this primarily to the development of relations between the two countries based on mutual trust.
At the same time, Chinese economist Andrew Leung shared with Izvestia that Russia-China relations are strengthening because of the ideal combination of their economies, US aggression against both countries, and a common border. Among other things, he drew attention to the significant growth of bilateral trade and called the economies of the countries symbiotic.
