Russian Armed Forces liberate the village of Volkovo in the DNR

The Russian Armed Forces (AF) have taken control of the village of Volkovo in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR). This was reported by the Russian Defense Ministry on January 21.

"The units of the Center group of troops continued advancing deep into the enemy's defense and liberated the settlement of Volkovo in the Donetsk People's Republic," the ministry said in a statement.

In addition, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation defeated the Ukrainian army brigades' manpower and equipment in the areas of the settlements of Shcherbinovka, Petrovka, Dzerzhinsk, Lysovka, Baranovka, Slavyanka, Novoelezavetovka, Solenoye, Novoalexandrovka and Novovasilievka of the DNR.

The enemy lost up to 580 military personnel, seven armored vehicles, including a French-made VAB armored personnel carrier, six vehicles and nine artillery pieces.

Earlier in the day, operators of unmanned aerial vehicles of the Vostok group of forces destroyed self-propelled artillery installations of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the DNR. In addition, Russian reconnaissance units, supporting the advance of assault units deep into the defense of Ukrainian formations, identified and hit a tank, two armored combat vehicles, engineering equipment and personnel of the AFU.

On January 20, the Russian army liberated the settlement of Shevchenko in the DNR, as well as Novohorovka in the Luhansk People's Republic.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
