President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko will discuss with Russian President Vladimir Putin the construction of a second nuclear power plant (NPP) in the republic. This was announced by the president during a visit to Minsk Automobile Plant on January 21.

It is specified that the place for construction has not yet been determined, but certain areas suitable for the NPP construction have been outlined, BelTA informs.

Prior to that, January 16, Lukashenko said about the need to build a second nuclear power plant in Belarus. It was also noted the increasing demand for electricity in the country, both at production facilities and among private citizens.

In April 2024, Alexei Likhachev, CEO of the state corporation Rosatom, called the delivery of the Belarusian nuclear power plant to Belarusian partners one of the most important international projects of the state corporation by the end of 2023. The station is located in Grodno region. As Lukashenko noted, the station has already saved more than $400 million for the country.

In the same month, the Belarusian leader admitted that a new nuclear power plant might appear in the east of the country. However, he clarified that the final decision on the construction of the station had not yet been made. Talking about the first Belarusian nuclear power plant, Lukashenka emphasized that its construction was a wise decision.
