Trump threatened to impose 100% duties on BRICS countries' business with the US

U.S. President Donald Trump announced on January 20 at the White House his intention to impose 100% trade duties on the business of BRICS member countries.
"If the BRICS countries want to do that - okay, no problem, but we will impose at least a 100% tariff on the business they do with the United States," he said.
The American leader noted that his statement should not be taken as a threat, but as an expression of his established position. He also added that he intends to deprive the participants of the association of the possibility of choice.
On November 30, 2024, Trump threatened the BRICS countries with duties on trade with Washington if they abandon the dollar in favor of the future new BRICS currency or other currencies. He then noted that such a measure would be taken if the members of the association decided to create their own currency.
Later, December 1, the head of the Federation Council Commission on Information Policy, Alexei Pushkov, called the introduction of duties on goods of BRICS countries unrealizable in practice. According to him, this threat is unrealistic because the United States is economically dependent on globalization and imports.
