- The prisoner of war said that he signed a contract with the AFU in order to surrender to the Russian Armed Forces on the frontline

Captured Ukrainian military man Dmytro Verbytskyy from Kharkiv shared on January 21 that he joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) to get to Russia.
"Signed the contract voluntarily, expecting as I had previously planned, dreamed and wanted to get to Russia, well I think there will be more chances here than I will stay," he shared.
The serviceman specified that he signed the contract in the penal colony, where he was serving a sentence for looting. Thus, after training, he was first sent to the AFU unit near Sumy, and then he ended up in the border area of Kursk region.
Earlier, on January 14, the captured Ukrainian border guard Oleh Koval shared that the AFU has a poor provision of food. According to him, there is not enough food for all soldiers. He noted, among other things, that it is better to surrender to the Russian Armed Forces (AFU) and "hope for life."
The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
