The end of the conflict in Ukraine is possible if Moscow and Kiev are ready to compromise. This statement was made by the new US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on January 20.

"We're not going to get ahead of ourselves by talking about negotiations and the fact that at this level they are best conducted by diplomacy, not in public forums. And obviously the countries involved, both the Russians and the Ukrainians, will have to make a final decision on what they've agreed to," CNN quoted him as saying.

Rubio, among others, called ending the Ukrainian conflict a priority of US President Donald Trump. He added that "some of the preparatory work" to end the conflict has already begun.

The American Secretary of State emphasized that Trump "wants to be a president who promotes peace and ends conflicts." At the same time, Rubio did not name the terms of the end of the conflict, clarifies "Gazeta.Ru".

On the eve of Trump, commenting on his promise to end the conflict between Russia and Ukraine within a day after starting work as president, said that he "has another half a day in reserve" to contribute to its termination. Among other things, he added that he plans to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin as soon as possible.

In addition, Trump said the U.S. has spent $200 billion more on Ukraine than NATO, although other countries in the alliance are much more affected by the conflict. He said the North Atlantic alliance should allocate more funds to even out the score."

The special operation to protect Donbass, which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the aggravated situation in the region.
