Bundestag deputy from Sarah Wagenknecht's Union for Reason and Justice party, Sevim Dagdelen, on January 20 called for the reopening of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline and the import of Russian oil.

"We need competitive energy prices again thanks to the reopening of Nord Stream 2 and the import of Russian oil for the PCK Schwedt plant," she wrote on social network X (formerly Twitter).

According to Dagdelen, Germany will suffer an economic downturn as "self-destructive sanctions" against Russia are tightened.

Thus, the MP commented on the material of the German newspaper Berliner Zeitung, from which it follows that anti-Russian sanctions harm the economy of the FRG, specifies "Gazeta.Ru".

Earlier, on January 16, former German Finance Minister Oscar Lafontaine called for the immediate lifting of sanctions against Russia, which have already caused damage to the European Union (EU). He, among other things, specified that the restrictions contradict international law.

At the same time, the Neue Zurcher Zeitung newspaper reported that the refusal to use Russian gas had a significant impact on German industry. As Mikhail Belyaev, a financial analyst and candidate of economic sciences, added in his commentary to Izvestia, not only the energy industry of Germany suffered, but also those parts of the industry where gas was used as a raw material. In particular, Germany faced difficulties due to gas restrictions in the automotive and chemical industries.

Western countries increased sanctions pressure on Russia after the start of the special operation to protect civilians in Donbass, which was announced on February 24, 2022.
