US President Donald Trump said that America is entitled to half of the social network TikTok. This was said by Trump to journalists in the Oval Office of the White House on January 20.

"I believe that the United States should have the right to half of TikTok," - quotes the words of the head of the White House the TV channel CBS.

The American leader signed an executive order directing the Justice Department not to enforce a law that effectively bans TikTok for 75 days. According to Trump, he intends to consult on national security issues related to TikTok and seek a resolution, while preserving the platform, which is used by 170 million Americans.

In addition, the US head of state noted that most of the people using the app are young children. According to Trump, the US has more important tasks than this.

Earlier in the day it was reported that Americans are actively using the Chinese application Xiaohongshu, the popularity of which has increased dramatically against the background of failures in the work of the video platform TikTok, owned by the Chinese company ByteDance.

On January 19, NBC News reported that the social network TikTok became inaccessible to residents of the United States. It was specified that the social network disappeared from the App Store and Google Play.

Later in the day, US President-elect Donald Trump published in Truth Social an appeal to keep the application available and said he would issue an executive order to freeze the implementation of the law banning TikTok on the day of his inauguration. The politician specified that the decree could include the sale of 50% of the company to a new owner. At the time, the video platform also restored service to USA users and expressed gratitude to Trump for his expressed desire to make TikTok available.

Current U.S. President Joe Biden signed a law banning the social network on April 24, 2024. Senators in Congress then approved the measure by an overwhelming majority because they believed that the Chinese government could secretly spy on US citizens through the app.
