The Russian Federal Security Service of the Donetsk People's Republic (DNR) has detained a resident of Mariupol suspected of treason and espionage in favor of Ukraine. This was reported by the official representative of the FSB of Russia in the DNR Arina Klepanova on January 21.

According to preliminary data, the detained citizen of Ukraine collected and transmitted to the Ukrainian security services information about the locations of deployment of Rosgvardia units near the city.

It is reported that the detainee received Russian citizenship and continued to collect information about Russian servicemen under the assignment of the GUR of the Defense Ministry of Ukraine.

"The investigative unit of the Russian FSSB in the DNR opened a criminal case under Article 275 and Article 276 of the Russian Criminal Code ("High Treason" and "Espionage")", - informed Klepanova.

Earlier, on January 11, in the Lugansk People's Republic (LNR) detained a former citizen of Ukraine engaged in espionage activities, a criminal case was initiated (Art. 276 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, "Espionage"). It was established that the LNR resident received assignments from the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU). While fulfilling them, he collected data on the deployment of units of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and passed them to the Ukrainian special services.
