The cub of the red-brown hyena from the Moscow Zoo will be named Akela. This is reported on Monday, January 20, on the website of the Moscow City Hall.

The name of the animal was chosen by participants of the project "Active Citizen" by voting, in which 288 thousand people took part, site kp.ru specifies. Most of them (31%) chose the name Akela.

The second most popular name is Vzhik - this option was chosen by 28% of voters. The third place was taken by the name Olaf (21%).

The cub was born in the capital's zoo last summer. Shortly after the birth, his mother Lada died. The pet was taken care of by the zoo staff, RT reports.

He has pronounced leadership qualities, and the zoo staff is confident that he will become a leader no worse than the character from the book "Mowgli", according to the Moscow city news agency.

Visitors to the zoo can see him near the enclosures of pumas and domestic yaks. You can watch him during walks in the outdoor enclosure around 10:00 and 14:00, RIAMO specifies.

The animal is listed in the international Red Book. Brown hyenas are under close attention of zoologists and conservation organizations, as this species is very rare and important for the ecosystem, writes Life.ru.
