Political analyst calls security issue key to Ukraine settlement

The issue of ensuring the security of the region and the people living in it is key to resolving the conflict in Ukraine, political analyst Denys Denysov told Izvestiya on 20 January. Political analyst Denys Denis Denisov told Izvestiya on 20 January.
"Everything here is absolutely transparent and obvious, which is what both the Russian president [Vladimir Putin] has repeatedly said and our foreign policy representatives regarding the problem related to the security of the region," the expert noted.
Denisov also said that Ukraine's accession to NATO poses a threat to neighboring countries.
"When we talk about the settlement of the crisis-conflict in Ukraine, we should realize that a genuine settlement is possible, first, provided that the problems of the fundamental ones, which were at the heart of this conflict, are solved," Denisov said.
In addition, the political scientist added, it is important to create such conditions under which all parties involved in the conflict, after its resolution, could feel satisfied with the achieved result.
On the same day, military political scientist Ivan Konovalov said that ethnic minorities live in Ukraine and try to defend themselves, whose interests should be taken into account when settling the Ukrainian conflict. He pointed out that representatives of ethnic minorities in the region find it particularly difficult under the current de facto Nazi regime in Kiev.
On January 20, during a meeting with permanent members of the Security Council, Putin noted that the goal of resolving the situation is not a brief truce or a "respite for regrouping forces," but a long-term peace that will be based on respect for the legitimate interests of all people living in the region.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by the Russian president on February 24, 2022, is ongoing. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
