The Bundestag next week may consider banning the political party "Alternative for Germany" (AdG). This was reported by the German newspaper Zeit on January 20.

According to its data, such an application was submitted to the German parliament by a cross-party group of deputies, including a politician from the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) Karen Wegge, who called on the Bundestag to support the initiative.

Zeit explains that in case the parliament supports the party's ban, the final ruling will have to be issued by the Federal Constitutional Court in Karlsruhe. The initiators of discussions on banning the AdG believe that this political force allegedly actively acts against the free democratic order in Germany.

At the same time, the newspaper recalled that the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, SPD member Olaf Scholz opposes such a ban.

The day before, on January 19, the Bild newspaper published the results of a survey by the INSA public opinion institute, according to which 57% of Germans polled believe that the conservative bloc of the Christian Democratic and Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU) will win the early elections to the Bundestag, scheduled for February 23, 2025, while 17% are confident in the victory of the AdG.

The head of the AdG in Thuringia, Björn Höcke, said on January 14 that Germany needs to change its political course and more and more people realize that the old political line can no longer be maintained.

Before that, on December 20, 2024, American entrepreneur and billionaire Ilon Musk called the victory of the AdG the only possibility of salvation for Germany, adds "Gazeta.Ru".
