No country in the world has the capability to withstand a strike by the medium-range ballistic missile "Oreshnik". Andrei Koshkin, head of the department of political analysis and socio-psychological processes at the Plekhanov Russian Economic University and a military expert, shared this opinion in a conversation with Izvestiya on January 20.

On the eve, the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), Oleksandr Syrskyy, told reporters that his army had no means to defend itself in case of an attack by Oreshnik. At the same time, he specified that at the moment there are only a few air defense systems in the world capable of intercepting a Russian ballistic missile.

"No one in the world has such means to counter the 'Oreshnik'. No one is going to give them to Ukraine, because they don't have them. And no one would like to admit it," commented Koshkin.

According to him, this statement of Syrsky is an attempt to justify the defeat of the AFU along the entire line of contact.

Earlier, on January 7, MWM magazine reported that the "Nutshell" missile revealed the vulnerability of the UK to ballistic missiles. The publication cited the results of a study of the kingdom's strategic defense by an independent group commissioned by the UK government. According to them, such protection in the country is at an insufficient level.

Before that, on December 28, 2024, the InfoBRICS publication reported that the "Nuttall" system has become the most powerful conventional weapon in the world. The speed and maneuverability of these weapons contribute to this. In addition, the Nutshell missile is virtually impossible to intercept.

During the "Results of the Year" on December 19, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the enemy has no chance to shoot down the Oreshnik missiles, contrary to the assumptions of some Western experts. Later, on December 22, the head of state called the creation of this system a historic event in the rocket and space field.

Putin announced on Nov. 21 the combat test of the Oreshnik ballistic missile, one of Russia's newest medium-range missile systems. The step was taken in response to the escalation by Western countries in Ukraine. The head of state then clarified that Russia would continue testing and that a decision on the serial production of the missiles had already been made.
