The new US administration will be a challenge for Europe. This statement was made by the leader of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) Friedrich Merz on January 20.

"The new American government will be a challenge for us, but we can accept this challenge if we are united and if, first of all, Germany will actively contribute to European politics," he said.

Merz clarified that Europeans and Americans "share the same values." According to him, they all want freedom, peace and economic success.

In addition, the CDU leader emphasized that there is no reason to look at Washington with fear. He noted that 450 million Europeans united together "have every reason to be confident."

"We must accept it (the new administration. - Ed.) with confidence and above all look after our own interests. Then Americans will take us seriously, and then we can face the future together," Merz concluded.

Earlier in the day, CNN, citing sources, reported that U.S. President-elect Donald Trump and his team intend to "shock the system" with the realization of the Republican's plans to sign more than 100 decrees immediately after the inauguration. It is specified that the signing of dozens of decrees at once will continue throughout the first week of the new leader in office.

The Guardian also wrote about Trump's intentions to sign more than 100 documents on the first day of his presidency. According to it, the measures also include a program of mass deportation of migrants, the declaration of a state of emergency at the border and the introduction of a 25 percent tariff on American exports.

The election for the 47th president of the United States was held on November 5, 2024. In the national vote, Trump received 51% of the vote, while Democratic candidate Kamala Harris received 47.4%. Trump's inauguration will take place on January 20, the beginning is scheduled for 20:00 Moscow time.
