Ukrainian troops blew up a mine in the Belitskoye settlement near Krasnoarmeyskoye in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) while retreating, regional head Denis Pushilin said on January 20.

"We have information that a mine in the Belitskoye settlement near Krasnoarmeyskoye has been blown up," he said on air of the Rossiya-24 TV channel .

Pushilin noted that the enemy is trying to inflict damage during the retreat because it did not and does not consider the DNR its land.

In his opinion, the Ukrainian fighters are also trying to make it difficult to restore enterprises and the ability to provide everything the civilian population needs.

Earlier, on January 13, it was reported that Ukraine was halting coking coal production at a mine in its controlled Krasnoarmeysk due to the advance of the Russian Armed Forces. The New York Times predicted that Kiev could face economic problems due to the loss of an important industrial facility.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, is ongoing. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
