The number of users of biometric services approached 3 million in Russia

The number of registrations in the Unified Biometric System (UBS) is approaching 3 million, the press service of the Center for Biometric Technologies (CBT) told Izvestia. They noted that about 80% of users connected to the system in 2024.

Russians' confidence in biometric services is gradually growing, the Center for Biometric Technologies said. According to the VTsIOM study, in 2024, 41% of respondents had a positive attitude to such technologies, although a year before the figure was 27%. The shares of those who treat biometrics neutrally (-9% for the year) and negatively (-3% for the year) have decreased.

Biometric payment services will in the future allow for a number of seamless user scenarios, the CBT added. For example, within a single transaction to make a payment for goods and age verification or payment for a hotel stay and registration in the room.

A single service for biometrics payments from the largest market players will appear in Russia, Izvestia found out. The launch of cross-bio-acquiring from the largest bank (Sber) and the operator of cards "Mir" (National Payment Card System - NPC) is scheduled for the second half of 2025.

Now, in order to connect to the face-to-face payment service, a client needs to register his data in the Unified Biometric System (UBS) via the "Gosuservices Biometrics" application or in bank branches. After the data are linked to the system "Sber" or NSPK, respectively, and then you can attach a card of any credit organization - the money will be deducted from it.
