Fuel oil from the tanker Volgoneft-239 is being pumped out through sealed pipes, after which the vessel will be sent to a railway station and then for disposal. This was told on Sunday, January 19, by the head of Rosmorrechflot Andrey Tarasenko on air of "Channel One".

He noted that the first 20 tons of fuel oil were pumped out of the tanker.

As specified in the Telegram-channel of Rosmorrechflot, specialists have restored on the ship the necessary equipment for heating the oil product to +45 degrees and its subsequent pumping.

Tankers "Volgoneft-212" and "Volgoneft-239" due to bad weather crashed in the Kerch Strait on December 15, 2024. The incident resulted in a spill of oil products. 27 people were evacuated from both vessels, one person died.

On January 17, deputy head of the Krasnodar regional emergency rescue service "Kuban-SPAS" Oleg Chelyadinov said that the removal of sand contaminated with fuel oil from the main area of beaches in Anapa was completed.

Later, on January 19, it was reported that access roads were laid to the tanker Volgoneft-239 to prevent new releases of fuel oil from the stern. Work to clean the water area around the remaining part of the tanker is ongoing.
