Zakharova accused Zelensky of lying about missing Trump's inauguration
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky (term of office expired in May 2024) lied when he said that he would not go to the inauguration of US President-elect Donald Trump because of "affairs at home". This was stated by Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on January 19.
The diplomat also recalled the real reason for Zelensky's skipping the event.
"Zalensky said that he would not go to Trump's inauguration because he has business at home. Did the pipe burst? <...> The fact that he asked three times to Washington, and he, as it now turns out, refused, he forgot to specify. He lied," she wrote in her Telegram channel.
Zakharova also drew attention to the fact that in 2024, the President of Ukraine visited more than 35 countries and "home affairs" did not embarrass him. In addition, in two weeks of the coming year, Zelensky has already managed to make "begging visits" to Germany, Italy and Poland, she added.
Zelensky revealed that he was not invited to Trump's inauguration on January 5 in an interview with journalist Lex Friedman. He also added that he could not come "like this, during the hostilities."
On the same day, Verkhovna Rada deputy Oleksandr Dubynskyi ironized Zelenskyi, emphasizing that Trump does not want to see his Ukrainian colleague at the most solemn event.
Trump's inauguration will take place on January 20.
