Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko on the Epiphany holiday and wished him success in the upcoming presidential election. This was reported on the official website of the Kremlin on January 19.

"The President of Russia also wished Alexander Lukashenko success in the upcoming presidential elections on January 26, 2025," - stated in the message.

It is reported that the leaders discussed topical and working issues. They plan to further strengthen the strategic partnership of the two countries and agreed on further personal contacts.

Presidential elections in Belarus are scheduled for January 26, 2025. Chairman of the House of Representatives of Belarus Igor Sergeenko called the upcoming elections an important and significant social and political event.

In late February 2024, Lukashenko said he would participate in the next presidential elections in the country. Then he noted that the opponents of the authorities in the country would not be able to realize any of the options for its overthrow.

The candidates for the presidential election in Belarus were the current leader of the country, Alexander Lukashenko, leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Belarus Oleg Gaidukevich, MP Anna Kanopatskaya, leader of the Belarusian Communists Sergei Syrankov and leader of the Party of Labor and Justice Alexander Khizhnyak.
