- Ex-Trump adviser says he wants to end the conflict in Ukraine sooner rather than later
US President-elect Donald Trump wants to end the conflict in Ukraine as soon as possible and does not care about the terms of settlement. This was stated by Trump's former national security adviser John Bolton in an interview with Japanese TV channel NHK on January 18.
"Trump wants to end <conflict> as soon as possible after taking office, and he doesn't care what form that settlement takes. He just wants it to end, and that's bad news for Ukraine," Bolton pointed out.
According to him, Russia may be interested in such an aspiration of the future American leader, providing for a ceasefire based on the current situation in the war zone.
Before that, on January 10, Trump emphasized the need to "end" the Ukrainian conflict. He added that he was preparing to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin after his inauguration, scheduled for January 20.
Putin told reporters on Dec. 26 that Russian Federation intends to end the conflict in Ukraine, not just freeze it.
Trump's team said on Dec. 13 that it was in talks with Ukrainian officials and the current White House administration to resolve the conflict. Trump's special envoy for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, then also allowed for the end of this crisis in the coming months.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by the Russian president on February 24, 2022, is ongoing. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
