Media reported about the doubling of imports of medicines to the European Union from Russia

The European Union (EU) by November 2024 doubled imports of pharmaceutical products from Russia in annual terms. This became known on January 18 from the data of the statistical service Eurostat, which was studied by "RIA Novosti".

In total, for the first 11 months of 2024, the EU purchased pharmaceutical products for €38.8 million, which is 18% higher than in 2023 (€32.9 million). However, for December last year, the volume of purchase imports decreased by 23%.

It is noted that the Europeans purchased from Russia for € 1.4 million serums and vaccines, as well as for € 3.2 million - medicines.

At the moment Russia ranks 23rd in the ranking of the largest importers of pharmaceutical products in the EU.

Earlier, on December 19, 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin noted the development of pharma companies in Russia. He emphasized that previously pharmacology was developed mainly with the support of the state and the federal budget, but now pharmaceutical companies have begun to invest their own resources, amounting to tens of billions of rubles. It is expected that by 2030 the Russian Federation should reach 90% of its own drugs, and 40% for medical devices.
