- The head of the DNR spoke about the situation in Kurakhovo and compared the destruction with Avdiivka
On 18 January, the head of the Donetsk People's Republic (DNR), Denys Pushylin, reported on the situation in the town of Kurakhovo, which was liberated by the Russian army. According to him, the level of destruction here is comparable to Avdeevka.
"The fifth brigade named after Alexander Vladimirovich Zakharchenko, heroic, is moving forward. Well today we have the opportunity to see what is actually left of Kurakhovo, what is happening in the city," Pushilin said in a video message in the Telegram-channel.
Also the head of the DNR spoke about the destruction and increased danger on the territory of the city.
"There are practically intact [houses], there are destroyed, but in general we can say that it is better by an order of magnitude than in Ugledar," Pushilin concluded.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported theliberation of Kurakhovo by the Russian military on January 6. The ministry said that this is the largest city in southwestern Donbass. During the fighting to liberate the settlement, the AFU lost more than 12,000 people and about 3,000 weapons and military equipment.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
