After Indonesia's accession to BRICS in January 2025, the United States became concerned because of the threat of the end of the States' dominance in the global financial system. Brazilian journalist and analyst Pepe Escobar said on January 18.

"Now Indonesia has joined BRICS as a full member. The US is appalled that the most important country in Southeast Asia, a zone of rapid growth, is now a full member of BRICS with voting rights like the original members," the journalist said in a conversation with RIA Novosti.

According to Escobar, Indonesia, like other countries that have joined BRICS, will now be attacked by US intelligence services to destabilize the situation inside the state. Attempts of color revolutions and hybrid attacks from the U.S. will also multiply.

On Jan. 6, the government of Brazil, which serves as the 2025 BRICS chair, officially announced Indonesia's entry into the association. The republic's membership was approved under the BRICS enlargement guidelines, criteria and procedures.

BRICS is an interstate association of countries. On the eve of the summit in Kazan, held from October 22 to 24, 2024, 35 applications were received to join the association. On January 1, 2025, Belarus, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Kazakhstan, Cuba, Malaysia, Thailand, Uganda and Uzbekistan joined the BRICS as partners.
