The worsening of the crisis in the Middle East is the result of the United States' failed course. This was stated by Russia's permanent representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya on January 17.

"[Israel's] military operations have until recently enjoyed unconditional support from Washington, whose failed course has only led to the crisis situation in which the entire Middle East region, its civilians and peacekeepers working there are today," he said at a UN Security Council meeting on the Middle East.

Nebenzya also drew attention to the fact that the Israeli leadership, which claims a "war on seven fronts," receives military and international-political support from the United States.

Earlier, on January 14, Pete Hegseth, a candidate for Pentagon chief, promised under U.S. President-elect Donald Trump to conduct a review of U.S. goals and strategy on the Middle East. In addition, he said, Trump has banned the U.S. from intervening in Syria.

On December 21, 2024, American economist Jeffrey Sachs called the United States and Israel the main provocateurs of the situation in the Middle East. According to Sachs, Israel is the great destabilizer of the situation in the Middle East, and there will be no peace in the region as long as the actions of the Jewish state are supported by the United States.

On December 19 of the same year, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Israel was the main beneficiary of the events in Syria. According to him, the Russian Federation condemns the seizure of any Syrian territories.

The situation in the Middle East escalated on the morning of October 7, 2023, when the Palestinian radical movement Hamas subjected the territory of Israel to a massive rocket attack from the Gaza Strip. On the same day, Israel began retaliatory strikes.
