The fight between Russian mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Arman Tsarukyan and his compatriot, holder of the Absolute Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight belt Islam Makhachev for the UFC title was canceled due to Tsarukyan's ill health. UFC President Dana White said on January 17.

"Arman Tsarukyan is experiencing severe back pain, he feels he is not in a condition to fight. So Makhachev's opponent in the title fight will be (Brazilian) Renato Moicano," the UFC president said on his X social media page (formerly Twitter).

The Makhachev vs. Tsarukyan fight was supposed to be the highlight of the evening. It would be the fourth defense of the lightweight title for Makhachev, and for his opponent the fight could be the first title fight in his career.

It is specified that the confrontation of the Russian fighter against the opponent from Brazil should take place on the night from January 18 to 19 in Los Angeles.

Earlier, on January 12, it was reported that Russian mixed martial arts fighter Roman Kopylov defeated American Chris Curtis by knockout at UFC Fight Night in Las Vegas. The middleweight fight lasted three rounds.
