London's promised assistance to Kiev in developing long-range weapons and military infrastructure is seen as a threat to the Russian Federation. This was reported by the Russian Embassy in the UK on January 17.

"We consider the promised assistance in the development of long-range weapons, creation of military infrastructure, including bases, storage facilities for military equipment and weapons, as well as 'reserves in case of war' as a direct threat to Russia from the territory of neighboring Ukraine," - follows from the publication on the website of the agency.

In addition, it is noted that "new extremely provocative plans of the British" with regard to Ukraine threaten another round of escalation.

The embassy added that the whole situation clearly demonstrates the validity of the special military operation and its continuation until the fulfillment of its tasks.

On the eve of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky (term of office expired on May 20, 2024) and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer signed an agreement on a centennial partnership. Following the talks, Starmer said that the UK will always be ready to play a leading role in supporting Ukraine. In addition, he announced the transfer of a new air defense system to Ukraine.

It was also noted that the UK intends to consider the possibility of placing military bases in Ukraine, which is spelled out in the declaration.

The first deputy head of the Federation Council's Committee on International Affairs, Vladimir Dzhabarov, commenting on the agreement between London and Kiev, said that the UK had decided to get a new colony in the person of Ukraine. According to him, it is ridiculous to talk about some century-old agreement.

Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Ukraine amid Russia's special operation to protect Donbas, which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, after the situation in the region worsened due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
