German authorities will pay €1.7 thousand to migrants who want to return to Syria. This was reported by Der Spiegel magazine on January 17.

"The Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) is again supporting Syrian migrants who permanently return to their homeland," the material said.

In addition to a one-time support of € 1.7 thousand migrants can apply to the BAMF to cover airfare and other transportation costs, which are financed by the government.

At the same time, it is specified that the amount of starting financial assistance is limited to a maximum of € 4 thousand per family.

Earlier, on December 14, 2024, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz assured that Europe will help Syria to rebuild. He noted that there are currently hundreds of thousands of Syrians living in the FRG. According to him, those individuals who have successfully integrated into society can safely stay in Germany.

The Russian Foreign Ministry reported on December 8, 2024 that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, after negotiations with the opposition, left the post of head of state and left the country, instructing to carry out the transfer of power peacefully. Syria's national coalition of revolutionary and opposition forces said it was working to form a transitional authority. The country is expected to hold a referendum.

The situation in Syria escalated as a result of a major attack by armed groups in Aleppo and Idlib, which began on November 28 and led to the Syrian army's retaliation against the militants.
