IAEA reported daily explosions near ZNPP
The director-general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, has said that explosions near the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant (ZNPP) occur on a daily basis. This was reported on January 17 on the website of the organization.
"At ZNPP, where the overall situation on the conflict frontline remains unstable, the IAEA team reported numerous explosions occurring every day, including at close and medium distances from the plant," the report said.
According to Grossi, these explosions jeopardize nuclear safety and security of nuclear power plants.
It is also noted that ZNPP is still having problems with external power supply: the last remaining power line at the plant was shut down for several hours on January 12 for maintenance.
Earlier, on January 5, the IAEA reported that explosions occurred near ZNPP after a Ukrainian drone attacked the plant's training center.
At the same time, it became known that Ukrainian militants attacked the roof of building "G" of the Zaporizhzhya NPP training center with a drone. It was specified that as a result of the attack no one was injured, also there was no destruction.
Before that, on December 5 last year, Grossi said that the situation around Zaporizhzhya NPP, as long as there are hostilities near the facility, continues to be tense and unstable.
Zaporizhzhya region, where the nuclear power plant is located, became part of the Russian Federation following a referendum in September 2022. Since that time, Zaporizhzhya NPP has been under constant IAEA control.
