People with hypertension and diabetes are most at risk of disease exacerbation after long winter holidays. This was reported on January 17 by Olga Korhova, a general practitioner at SM-Clinica.
"People suffering from hypertension often face exacerbations during the holidays. Overeating, consumption of large amounts of salt and alcohol can lead to an increase in blood pressure," she said in a conversation with "Gazeta.Ru".
The specialist warned of the need for constant medication even during the holiday period. According to her, skipping can lead to a worsening of the condition.
She also pointed out the need to control blood pressure, especially after meals and alcohol. At the same time, Korhova recommended consulting a doctor about combining medications with alcohol.
"Diabetes mellitus is another category of patients who may face problems after New Year's feasts. Consumption of sweets and carbohydrates in large quantities can cause spikes in blood sugar levels," the doctor added.
According to her, diabetics should plan their diet in advance. She also urged to keep an eye on the sugar levels in the body. Failure to do so could lead to hyperglycemia or hypoglycemia.
In addition, she noted the adherence to aggravation of diseases of the group of patients with obesity, gastrointestinal diseases, as well as allergy sufferers. Korhova urged Russians not to forget about taking medications, to monitor the diet and the composition of dishes, as well as to consult a doctor in advance.
Earlier, on January 6, the chief physician of Palmira Clinic, candidate of medical sciences, psychotherapist Yanina Fedorenko shared her advice on how to restore the body after New Year's feasts. According to her, it is necessary to prepare the organism in advance and start lying down 10-15 minutes earlier every day because of the sleep schedule violation.
The specialist also recommended to include vegetables and fruits in the diet. In addition, she urged to try to maintain an active lifestyle, as well as not to rush to immediately perform accumulated work tasks.
