Russian Justice Ministry adds six journalists to the register of foreign agents

The Russian Justice Ministry has updated the register of foreign agents with the names of journalists Andrei Kozenko, Irina Romaliya, Anastasiya Lotareva, Anton Rubin, Kseniya Kiriya and Alexander Prokopenko. This is stated on January 17 on the website of the agency.

According to the Ministry of Justice, these individuals distributed inaccurate materials, including on the platforms of foreign agents, about the authorities of the Russian Federation and their policies. Many of them currently reside outside Russia and oppose the special military operation in Ukraine.

Also included in the list of foreign agents are the project "Go to the Forest" and LLC "ALAYA BUCKVA", founded by A. Seregin, a recognized foreign agent in the Russian Federation. At the same time, in accordance with the order of the Ministry of Justice of Russia the limited liability company "YARNOVOSTI" was excluded from the register due to liquidation.

Earlier, on January 10, the Tagansky court of Moscow registered administrative protocols against musician Noize MC (recognized as a foreign agent) and activist Zalina Marshenkulova (foreign agent, included in the list of terrorists and extremists). The court imputes to them the lack of labeling in publications on the Internet. The musician and the activist face a fine of up to Br50 thousand.

Before that, on December 27 last year, the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation included rapper Ligalayz (real name - Andrei Menshikov), media projects "Country and World. Sakharov Review" and "Transparency International - Russia in Exile".

On December 1, 2022, the law regulating the activities of foreign agents came into force in Russia. In case of obtaining this status, a foreign agent, among other things, can no longer receive financial support from the state, participate in government procurement and engage in teaching activities in state institutions. In addition, these persons must inform their employees and the authorities about this status, as well as label the materials they create.
