Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed hope on January 17 that the deal between Israel and Hamas would help alleviate the humanitarian situation and stabilize it.

He noted that the agreement would result in the release of hostages and open up the possibility of a significant increase in the amount of food, fuel and medicine supplied to Gaza.

"All this, we hope, will contribute to alleviating the humanitarian situation and long-term stabilization in the sector," the president said.

Putin said it was also important not to weaken efforts to fully resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

"We hope that the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip has actually been realized," Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian said, for his part, at a joint press conference with the Russian president.

The agreement on a ceasefire in Gaza became known on January 15. The next day, the Defense Ministry and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) began preparations for the implementation of the agreement. In particular, the State Defense Ministry's Checkpoints Directorate and the Design Department will be involved in the implementation of the deal to speed up logistics.

Also on Friday, January 17, The Jerusalem Post reported that in the first stage, in exchange for 2,000 Palestinian prisoners, Hamas will release 33 Israeli hostages - children, women (including military), men over 50 and "humanitarian hostages." In addition, representatives of the Palestinian movement and Israel signed the final version of the deal in the Qatari capital Doha.

The situation in the Middle East escalated on the morning of October 7, 2023, when the Palestinian radical movement Hamas subjected the territory of Israel to a massive rocket attack from the Gaza Strip. On the same day, Israel began retaliatory strikes.
