Putin called ties between Russia and Iran large-scale and mutually beneficial
Russian-Iranian ties are large-scale and mutually beneficial. This statement was made by Russian President Vladimir Putin on January 17 following the signing of a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement between the countries.
The head of state noted that Russian-Iranian cooperation is advancing in economic, social and cultural spheres. Among other things, he said the countries are regularly carrying out youth, parliamentary and interregional contacts.
"Our country attaches paramount importance to further strengthening of friendly and good-neighborly Russian-Iranian relations," Putin added.
According to the president, the ties are based on the principles of equality, respect and consideration of each other's interests, as well as mutual assistance and support, which are "consistently embodied in concrete deeds." Putin also emphasized that the countries' partnership is progressively developing from year to year.
In talks with Putin, Iranian leader Massoud Pezeshkian noted that relations between the countries are strategic and comprehensive. According to him, the interaction between Russia and Iran "will shed light on all problems in the region."
The Iranian president arrived in Russia on an official visit earlier in the day. The Iranian leader was met in Moscow by Russian Energy Minister Sergei Tsivilev, Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko and Igor Bogdashev, head of the Foreign Ministry's State Protocol Department. On the same day, he laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Alexander Garden in Moscow.
