Russia will probably not be represented at the inauguration of US President-elect Donald Trump. Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov told reporters on January 17.

"No one will represent Russia at the inauguration," Ushakov said. His words are quoted by TASS.

At the same time, he noted that Russia's Charge d'Affaires in the United States will come to the ceremony if an invitation is sent to him. In addition, the presidential aide said that there have been no contacts between Russia and the Trump team so far.

On the eve, January 16, Ushakov said that the Kremlin has not received signals from the Trump administration about the imminent contacts with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Moscow is waiting for the president-elect to officially take office. Nevertheless, when proposals come from him, the Russian Federation will be ready to consider them.

Trump, in turn, said on January 13 that he wants to meet with the Russian president as soon as possible, but pointed out that such contacts should be held in the status of the head of state who took office.

On January 9, Trump announcedabout the preparation of a meeting with the Russian president. The American leader-elect added that he plans to hold all such contacts after the inauguration. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on January 10 that Russia does not have certain conditions for negotiations with the United States.

The US Congress on January 6 approved Trump's victory in the 60th presidential election held on November 5, 2024. The decision was announced by incumbent US Vice President Kamala Harris, who competed with Trump as a candidate. The inauguration of the president-elect will take place on January 20.
