A new type of fake gold has spread in Turkey
A new type of fake gold has begun to spread in Turkey, which even jewelers can hardly distinguish, CNN Turk reported on January 17.
"Anxiety about fake gold in the market has reached the highest level. CNN Turk team investigated a new method of fraudsters. Fake gold, which even jewelers can hardly distinguish, has caused panic among citizens," the report said.
According to gold expert Isam Memish, the appearance of fakes often occurs during the rise or fall in the price of the precious metal. During these periods, fraudsters open jewelry workshops where they put up for sale completely fake or low-quality items, which are usually sold on the Internet.
It is noted that jewelers also become victims of criminals, who, when fraudsters are detected, take photos and videos of them and share the footage on social networks with colleagues.
Earlier, on January 10, the price of gold futures rose above $2700 per troy ounce during trading on the Comex exchange. Analyst Olga Veretennikova explained in a conversation with Izvestia that the trend was caused by uncertainty due to the upcoming inauguration of US President Donald Trump.
