A special military operation to protect civilians in Donbass has been conducted by Russia since February 24, 2022. You can track the progress of the joint troops of Russia, the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics (DNR and LNR), as well as see a map of military operations for a week - from January 11 to January 17, 2025 - in the Izvestia piece.

The Russian Defense Ministry said that Russian forces carried out eight group strikes with precision weapons and attack drones (UAVs), which hit critical facilities of Ukraine's gas and energy infrastructure, weapons depots, fuel bases, military airfields, assembly shops, storage sites for attack drones and uncrewed boats, as well as temporary deployment sites of the enemy and foreign mercenaries.

During the week, the Russian army liberated the settlements of Kalinovo in Kharkiv Region, Terny, Yantarnoye, Shevchenko, Peschanoye, Ukrainka, Slavyanka and Neskuchnoye in the DNR. 49 Ukrainian servicemen surrendered to captivity.

The Defense Ministry recalled that on January 16, another attempt was made from Ukrainian territory to launch a missile strike on facilities in Belgorod Region with six American ATACMS operational-tactical missiles. All of them were shot down, and there were no casualties or damage.

The ministry emphasized that it would take measures to launch a retaliatory strike.

A total of 652 aircraft, 283 helicopters, 40,643 UAVs, 590 anti-aircraft missile systems, 20,650 tanks and other armored combat vehicles, 1,510 multiple rocket launchers, 20,742 field artillery and mortars, 30,433 units of special military vehicles have been destroyed since the beginning of the special military operation.
