Russian President Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, during which they discussed bilateral issues and the agenda of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). This was reported by the Armenian government on January 17.

"The interlocutors discussed the results of the presidency of the Republic of Armenia in the Eurasian Economic Union, upcoming tasks within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union, as well as a number of issues on the Armenia-Russia bilateral agenda," the Armenian Cabinet's Facebook page (owned by Meta, an organization recognized as extremist in Russia) stated.

According to the Kremlin, during the conversation Putin and Pashinyan touched upon the topic of deepening integration cooperation, especially in the field of energy. They also noted the practical advantages of working together within the EAEU, including benefits for Armenia's economy.

"Nikol Pashinyan explained the situation related to Yerevan's recent steps in the context of relations with the European Union," the statement said.

The Russian president, in turn, made comments on the matter.

Last November, Russian Ambassador to Armenia Sergey Kopyrkin told Izvestia that Russia expects the Armenian partners to be involved in joint efforts to develop a system of equal and indivisible security on the Eurasian continent for a long time.

Prior to that, on August 23, Pashinyan reported a telephone conversation with Putin, during which they discussed the Russian head of state's visit to Azerbaijan. The Russian leader and the Armenian prime minister agreed to meet if possible to discuss the issues of bilateral relations between Russia and Armenia.
