The marine rescue service has started the first stage of pumping out fuel oil from the tanker Volgoneft-239, which is aground near Cape Panagia in the Krasnodar Territory. This was reported by Russian Transport Minister Roman Starovoit on January 17.
"The equipment damaged as a result of the accident has been restored on the tanker, which will allow heating fuel oil. Now specialists of Morspassluzhba have already started this operation, which will be continuous, it is necessary to prevent solidification in the hose line. After the total volume of fuel oil reaches the temperature of 45 degrees, we will be able to proceed to the next stage - pumping the cargo into bitumen trucks, which will approach the tanker on the embankment," he said. His words are quoted by the press service of the Ministry of Transport in Telegram-channel.
The Minister reminded that before that an artificial embankment 400 meters long was arranged around the hull of the vessel to protect it from storms and oil products getting into the open sea.
In addition, Volgoneft-239 was inspected by divers and all possible leakage points were sealed, he noted.
"To exclude possible risks, all works will be carried out only under favorable weather conditions. Fuel oil pumping will be finished by the end of January," Starovoit concluded.
On December 15 last year tankers Volgoneft-212 andVolgoneft-239crashed in the Kerch Strait due to bad weather. 27 people were evacuated from both vessels, one person died. As a result of the incident there was a spill of oil products. On the instructions of Russian President Vladimir Putin, a working group was set up to coordinate work to eliminate the consequences of the emergency.
On January 2, 2025 the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation reported that 2.4 thousand tons of oil products fell into the Black Sea. The next day the oil slick was found at the entrance to Balaklava Bay off the coast of Sevastopol. After the city declared a state of emergency of regional character, it also became known that fuel oil moved north along the coast of Crimea.
January 11 in the Black Sea region of Crimea introduced the emergency threat regime of a municipal nature because of the identified fuel oil stains.
January 15 "Izvestia" showed the work of specialists of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, who lay a protective rampart around the tanker. An access technical road to the stern of the emergency vessel was built within a day on the instructions of the head of the agency, Alexander Kurenkov.
