Netherlands to allocate €20 mln to strengthen Ukraine's energy infrastructure
Dutch Foreign Minister Kaspar Veldkamp has promised to allocate €20m to strengthen the Ukrainian energy infrastructure after his visit to Ukraine. The corresponding statement was published on January 16 on the website of the Dutch government.
"Foreign Minister Veldkamp promised on Thursday to his Ukrainian counterpart Andriy Sibiga on behalf of the Netherlands to allocate €20 million to strengthen the Ukrainian energy network," the statement reads.
It is specified that the money will be intended for the repair and protection of energy supply, as well as for decentralized electricity generation in Ukraine.
Earlier, on January 1, the bid for Russian gas transit through Ukraine dropped to zero. From January 1, 2025 Gazprom stopped supplying fuel to Europe through the Ukrainian gas transportation system. The state corporation noted that this happened due to Ukraine's refusal to prolong the agreements.
Before that, on December 28, 2024, Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galushchenko appealed to the EU because of Fitzo's threats to cut off electricity supplies. He said that Ukraine was ready to replace Slovak electricity with supplies from other neighbors. According to him, negotiations with partners have already been held.
Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Kiev amid Russia's special operation to protect Donbas, which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, after the situation in the region worsened due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
