Servicemen of the artillery unit of the Center group of troops told Izvestiya about their work to support the Russian offensive in the Krasnoarmeysk direction of the special operation.

The artillerymen work on the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) with the Msta-B howitzer, which delivers a shell to the enemy with an error of 10 meters. The main targets are enemy units and heavy equipment moving in for an assault. The calculation accounted for several destroyed Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, tanks and pickup trucks.

"It actually feels like they don't have enough infantry and it's not very easy for them, so our men are moving forward, we're helping. The enemy is resisting, but overall the advance is going well. There are a lot of targets all the time, the enemy is driving," said Vladislav Yakovlev, an officer of the Center group of troops.

According to the fighters, it is necessary to aim as quickly as possible, before the target disappears. Numerous enemy FPV drones flying in the sky also complicate the work. Izvestia correspondent Alexander Safiulin noted that the sky in the area is "dirty" because it is swarming with drones. It is not easy to work on the enemy with large-caliber artillery when FPV drones are constantly flying in the sky, but it is impossible to stop the Russian Armed Forces' infantry cover, he emphasized.

"In parallel, somewhere nearby begin to work out already in the sky, something flies, but despite this, full charge work at maximum range. For this purpose, the gun we have is the Msta-B," the correspondent said.

Despite the fact that the AFU is actively retreating in the Krasnoarmeysk direction, the militants' fortifications are still solid - made of concrete or logs in several layers. The front is not quiet for a minute.

"We are working, moving forward, crushing the enemy. We throw them by the scruff of the neck - they snap back. Not as intensively as we do, but they are fighting back," shared the commander of the gun Yuri Yakovlev.

Earlier, on January 16, the crew of a T-72B3 tank of the Center group of troops destroyed an AFU stronghold on the Krasnoarmeyskoye direction from a closed firing position. The tank was firing 125-millimetre fragmentation-fugitive shells along a hinged trajectory with constant fire correction by UAV operators. For the safety of the crew, the tank was equipped with electromagnetic mine traps.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
