Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean has expressed dissatisfaction with Russia's decision to supply natural gas to Transnistria. His words were quoted bySputnik Moldovaon January 15.

According to the politician, the resumption of gas supplies will contribute to building up an alleged military potential in Transnistria, which "will be directed" against Ukraine and Romania.

"The ultimate goal [of the Russian Federation] is to destabilize the region," Recean said.

The prime minister added that Moldovan authorities will take the measures necessary to ensure peace and security in the country.

Earlier in the day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia was ready to assist Transnistria in dealing with the gas crisis. At the same time, Peskov stressed that Chisinau should ensure the conclusion of relevant contracts, as well as offer certain logistical solutions for the implementation of supplies.

The fact that Russia will send humanitarian gas supplies to Transnistria amid the energy crisis was announced the day before by the president of the unrecognized Transnistrian Moldovan Republic (TMR), Vadim Krasnoselsky.

Since January 1, 2025 Gazprom has stopped supplying fuel to Europe through the Ukrainian gas transportation system. The state corporation said that this happened due to Ukraine's refusal to prolong the agreement.

An economic state of emergency has been in effect in Transnistria since December 9, 2024. In early January, it was reported that 1.5 thousand multi-storey and 72 thousand private houses were left without heat and gas.

On 8 January, the first deputy prime minister and minister of economic development of the DMR, Serhiy Obolonik, said that Transnistria was in a state of not only energy but also humanitarian crisis.
