Problems in traveling, incidents with housing and cars are the most common reasons for applications to the insurance company during the New Year holidays. This is stated in the research results of the company "SberStrakhovanie", which were read by "Izvestia" on January 17.

Thus, according to insurers, from December 30, 2024 to January 8, 2025 most often trouble occurred with tourists - 39% of all applications related to travel insurance. Mostly on vacation people faced flight delays (56%) and needed medical assistance (19%).

Home insurance accounted for 21% of applications. Of these, 56% were for mortgage insurance and 44% for voluntary protection. The main problem for customers was the same: floods, which accounted for 37% of all real estate incidents. Most often they occurred due to the fault of neighbors or breakdowns of water supply systems in the houses and apartments of the insured themselves. Fire is next in the number of claims - 9% of all insured incidents with housing.

The third position is occupied by force majeure with automobiles - applications from drivers under hull insurance policies amounted to 16% of all appeals to the company during the New Year holidays. Their main causes were road accidents (58% of all claims under hull insurance) and falling of foreign objects on cars, for example icicles or heavy tree branches (22%).

In addition, 15% of cases were related to injuries, which were received, among other things, due to skating on ice skates, trampolines and ice-skates, as well as due to neglect of safety techniques when using pyrotechnics.

"During the New Year holidays people actively travel and engage in winter sports. Traditionally at this time is a lot of unpleasant accidents - from short circuits due to overloading of networks to serious fractures when falling on the ski slope," - said the Executive Director of "SberStrakhovanie" Alexander Abramov.
