British Petroleum to cut nearly 5,000 employees to reduce costs
British oil and gas company British Petroleum (BP) will cut 4.7 thousand jobs, which is about 5% of its staff, and more than 3 thousand positions among contractors. This was reported by Bloomberg agency on January 16 with reference to a letter from the head of the corporation Murray Ochincloss.
The decision was taken to reduce costs. According to the Executive Director, for the same purposes in 2025 and beyond, other measures are expected.
It is noted that since June 2024, the company has stopped or put on pause 30 projects, focusing on the most profitable.
A key component of BP's plans Ochincloss called the pursuit of digitalization and the introduction of artificial intelligence.
Earlier, on January 13, Jim Ratcliffe, founder of international chemical giant Ineos, said the UK chemical industry is on the brink of extinction due to high energy prices and carbon taxes. According to the billionaire, the deindustrialization of the United Kingdom has done nothing for the environment and only moves production with harmful emissions to other places.
