Political analyst points to Biden's continued work to destroy the UN's credibility
The team of incumbent US President Joe Biden has continued the work of the previous administrations to destroy the authority of the United Nations (UN). This opinion was expressed by political scientist and journalist Yury Svetov in a conversation with Izvestia on January 16.
"The Biden administration has continued the work of all previous administrations in destroying the authority of the UN. The desire of the United States to dictate terms has become even more clearly manifested," he said.
Svetov recalled how in September 2024, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky (his term expired on May 20, 2024) was allowed to speak remotely for the first time in the history of the UN, which was not stipulated by any rules.
"The Americans sold this decision. And the UN is losing authority, and such structures as BRICS are taking the place that the UN should play," the political analyst summarized.
On January 14, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov noted that it is necessary to carefully observe the ways in which US President-elect Donald Trump will "make America even greater." He emphasized that the United States seeks to get rid of competitors in every sphere. Lavrov cited the destruction of the energy prosperity of the European Union through undermining pipelines as an example.
Before that, on January 12, future US Vice President James David Vance said that Trump, once he officially takes office, will have to inherit the economic disaster that will be left behind by the current American leader. The inauguration ceremony of the President-elect of the United States will take place on January 20, 2025.
