For the first time the Epiphany of the Lord was celebrated during the lifetime of the holy apostles. At the general church level, the celebration was established after the Council of Chalcedon in 451. Thus, the holiday belongs to one of the oldest in Christian culture.

Every year on Epiphany in churches there are church services, and on reservoirs organize baptismal bathing in ice-holes (Jordan). Despite the fact that, from the position of the church, on the holiday is more important to pray and attend services, without a dip in the ice-hole does not do without any holiday.
