- The crew of a T-72B3 tank destroyed an AFU stronghold on the Krasnoarmeyskoye direction
A crew of a T-72B3 tank of the Center group of troops has destroyed a Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) stronghold on the Red Army's direction of the special operation from a closed firing position. This was reported by the Russian Defense Ministry on January 16.
Intelligence about the location of the point was passed to the tankers by a calculation of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). After that, the crew arrived at a pre-prepared firing position and promptly struck an enemy target at a range of up to 8 kilometers.
"The work of the crew is rated excellent: that of the mechanic, that of the gunner. They cope with their task very well, they do it as quickly as possible. Standing still is also dangerous, because 'birds' are flying," emphasized tank commander Andrei Doroshenko.
The firing was conducted with 125-millimeter fragmentation-fugitive shells on a hinged trajectory with constant fire correction by UAV operators. Working as an artillery piece, the tank crews support the actions of the assault teams, restraining the enemy from maneuvering and preventing them from returning fire.
"Today we received a command to go out and work on the forest belt. We fired 20 shells. Yesterday we fired a little less shells, we worked on other targets. Every day different targets", - said Doroshenko.
The soldier also added that for the safety of the crew the tank is equipped with electromagnetic mine traps. They protect the vehicle from anti-shell mines that explode under the tank where the armor is thin. The trawls, in turn, detect the mines and then activate them at a safe distance for the tank.
Earlier, on January 13, crews of T-90M "Breakthrough" tanks of the All-Russian Army of the Army Group West hit platoon strongholds, ammunition depots and enemy manpower in the special operation zone. The tankers then immediately drove into the so-called sump, where the AFU cannot track the parking lot.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
