Candidate for CIA chief admits Russia-U.S. cooperation in fighting terrorism

CIA chief nominee John Ratcliffe has said that Russia and the United States can cooperate on counterterrorism because they face similar threats.
"Some of the same threats we face from terrorist groups are threats they face," he said Jan. 15 during a Senate hearing broadcast by C-SPAN.
For that reason, there are instances where information or intelligence can be shared for the mutual benefit of both countries, he added.
During the hearing, Ratcliffe also promised that as CIA director he would advise US President-elect Donald Trump on opportunities to cooperate with Russian Federation when it would be mutually beneficial.
Earlier, on October 24, 2024, Russia's permanent representative to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzya said that the country remains at the forefront of the fight against terrorism. Moscow is making every effort to fight terugroza, including providing assistance to other countries, he pointed out.
Last June, Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov questioned the adequacy of U.S. methods to fight terrorism. In particular, he recalled that the U.S. intelligence services and military repeatedly encouraged the emergence of armed groups in Afghanistan and Iraq.
