Seven people died in Mozambique during protests over disagreement with the results of the presidential election. This was reported by the AFP news agency on January 15.

"According to a local non-governmental organization, seven protesters were killed in new political unrest," the publication's Telegram channel said.

On January 15, the inauguration of the elected President of the country Daniel Shapu took place. As specified "Gazeta.Ru", many residents of Mozambique hoped that an independent candidate and opposition leader Venancio Mondlane would win the elections, which were held on October 9, 2024. He has not conceded defeat.

Earlier, on December 26 last year, it was reported that at least 1,534 inmates escaped from the high-security central prison in Maputo, resulting in 33 deaths. It was specified that the escape occurred during riots after the announcement of the results of the presidential election. The Russian Embassy in Mozambique recommended Russians to refrain from traveling to the country due to the difficult socio-political situation.
