Ukraine may face economic problems due to the loss of a mine in Krasnoarmeysk (Ukrainian name - Pokrovsk) under its control. This was reported by the New York Times (NYT) on January 15.

"The closure of the mine will be a shock wave on the economy," - stated in the material.

It is noted that because of the shortage of coking coal production at the mine can be reduced several times. Also near the mine often occurs shelling, because of which there were power outages.

According to the newspaper, the mine was important for the steel industry and for the military sphere.

On January 13, it became known that Ukraine stops the production of coking coal in the mine controlled by it Krasnoarmeysk because of the advance of the Armed Forces (AF) of the Russian Federation. It is noted that the enterprise in Krasnoarmeysk is a mine where coking coal needed for industry is extracted.

Earlier, on January 10, an adviser to the head of the Donetsk People's Republic (DNR), Igor Kimakovskyy, said that the Russian Armed Forces were taking the Ukrainian-controlled towns of Krasnoarmeysk and Dimitrov (Ukrainian name - Myrnohrad) in their pincers. According to him, the Dimitrov direction is under pressure from the north. At the same time, he noted that the task is almost accomplished, as Russian equipment is located on the Dimitrov-Konstantinovka highway.

The Ukrainian edition of NV in November, among other things, specified that the loss of Krasnoarmeysk would turn into an economic disaster for Ukraine, as Kiev would lose the only mine with strategic reserves of coking coal, which supplies the entire metallurgical industry of the country.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the aggravated situation in the region.
